www.desitalk.com – that’s all you need to know 5 CITY VIEWS July 4, 2025 14th Annual Jersey Women Physicians Gala Attracts Scores Of Attendees A pproximately 120 women physi- cians gathered in a celebration of each other’s accomplishments, culture, and excellence at the 14th Annual JerseyWomen Phy- sician Gala, held at Nahar’s Nest on June 21st’ 2025. Dr Bharti Deka and Dr Sudha Nahar with their team organized this year’s event, a press release said. The purpose and vision are to promote DEI diversity, equality and inclusion, facilitate projects that are meaningful and impactful for women physician like work life balance, leadership roles and improve network- ing for better patient care, organizers said. A Ganesh Vandana jumpstarted the event. Dr Bhavi Patel and Dr Amina Saquib emceed the event where different groups of physicians performed Bol- lywood, Punjabi and Chinese dances. Opera singer Dr Sydelle Ross performed a moving song which she said she used to comfort her dying patients in palliative care. Volunteer and Distinguished service awards were given to Dr Charletta Ayers and Dr. Jinghui Xie. Among the numerous well-known physicians who attended the event were Dr. Dolly Abraham, Dr. Rachna Kulkarni, Dr, PatriciaWhittley, Dr Gloria Bach- man, Dr, Tania Gosh, Dr Payal Parikh, Dr Rekha Gohel, Dr. Chitra Kumar, Dr. Rizwana Khan, Dr. Kusum Punjabi, Dr. Sunita Kanumury, Dr Narinder Dhillon , Dr. Sunita Polepalle, Dr. Smita Lodha and Dr. Sameera Maganti. The event concluded with a Bolly Zumba led by Dr Deep Garg, a network- ing game and a vote of thanks. Dr Nahar emphasized that its not just a celebration but a testament to the collective strength of the group and their goal is to create an environment where every woman physi- cian feels valued and empowered to make a difference. Indian American NJ State Physicians Group Celebrates Father’s Day; Brings In New Leadership T he New Jersey State American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, (NJ State AAPI) held a Father’s Day celebration June 18, at the Imperia restaurant in Somerset, NJ. The event blended cultural festivities with an educational session on Estate and tax planning for physicians by Johan Vako VP, Kamal Singh APMA from wall street Alliance group, a press release from the organization said. NJ State AAPI has been hosting similar events throughout the year with the aim of empower- ing physicians and the community with the latest medical advancements, preventive care strategies, and professional growth opportunities, organizers said.. Attendees included President Dr. Sudha Na- har, Chair of the Board of Trustees Dr. Rachana Kulkarni, along with members of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, who presented the current EC and BOT team and thanked them for their hard work, shared the good news of 100% retention for next year. Dr Nahar welcomed the new members and presented the gavel to incom- ing president Dr. Raj Bhayani who delivered an acceptance speech and encouraged those present to increase the membership. NJ AAPI also presented a check to RWJUH/Som- erset health care foundation as a token of gratitude for their Indian medical program. Padma Shri recipient Dr Sudhir and spouse Dr. Sudha Parikh & approximately 100 physicians and their families were present at the event. Attendees dressed in colorful attire, enjoyed Father’s Day, physicians gotWorld’s Best Dad pin, delicious food, desserts, and drinks. The gathering took place at the residence of Sandeep Sacheti and was organized by Anand Rai, a fellow alumnus of Christ Church School, where Tankha also studied. The discussion focused on how entrepreneurs and community leaders could strengthen India–U.S. cooperation through shared innovation, entrepreneurship, and public service. During the event, Tankha offered ideas on using public platforms and professional networks to drive social impact. Recognized for his contributions to law, politics, and social service, Tankha shared insights from his journey, which is chronicled in the documentary, The Renaissance Man, which was part of the selection at the NewYork Asia Film Festival. It portrays Tankha’s multifaceted career and influence. “Chai Pe Charcha” not only highlighted Tankha’s legacy but also emphasized the role of diaspora communities in shaping international dialogue. Tankha is also referred to as “The Renaissance Man” by Congress Party leader and author, Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Those attending the talk said they were inspired by Tankha’s ideas.
