Celebrates Independence Day In US T he 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Washington D.C. with a flag- hoisting ceremony on August 15, 2025 at India House. The ceremony was attended by a number of Indians, diaspora members, students and friends of India, a press release from the Embassy said. Ambassador of India to the Unit- ed States, Vinay Kwatra, addressed the gathering and highlighted the address to the nation by India’a President on the eve of the indepen- dence day Aug. 14. A cultural program with the participation of Indian diaspora children was part of the program to celebrate the day. Senior dancers of the Mayor Dance Academy performed a clas- sical Odissi dance. Students of the Gandharva School of Music per- formed a medley of patriotic songs for the gathering. Winners of a Painting and Essay Competition or- ganized by the Embassy for children of the Indian community were also felicitated during the celebrations. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was commemorated through an ex- hibition on the history of the tricolor. Schumer Extends Independence Day Greetings To Indian-American Community U .S. Senator Charles Schumer has ex- tended warm greet- ings to the Indian- American community in New York and across the nation in honor of India’s Independence Day, recognizing their cultural, economic, and civic contri- butions to the state and the country. “As U.S. Senator from the great State of NewYork, I have always been honored to represent a diverse and vibrant Indian- American community,” Schumer said in his message. “The Indian-American com- munity has made outstanding contribu- tions to NewYork’s community, economy, and culture.” Highlighting his 2023 visit to India as part of his first Congressional Delegation as Senate Majority Leader, Schumer reflected on experiencing India’s rich his- tory, culture, and traditions firsthand. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen- ing U.S.–India ties, ground- ed in both nations’ shared dedication to democracy and prosperity. “On behalf of all New Yorkers, I am honored to wish Indian-Americans across our state a Happy Independence Day,” Schumer said. “Today, we celebrate the vast culture, diversity, and contribu- tions of Indian-Americans throughout NewYork.
