www.desitalk.com – that’s all you need to know 4 DIWALI SPECIAL November 1, 2024 Edison Diwali Wonderland: A Spectacular Celebration Of Lights And Culture P appiani Park in Edison was transformed into a Diwali Wonderland on Saturday, as thousands gathered for the 3rd Annual Diwali Celebration from 2 pm to 9 pm. The entire park was adorned with decorative lights and arches, creating a magical atmosphere that resembled a true wonderland. Families and individuals could be seen posing for photos against the vibrant backdrops, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion. The festival drew families and indi- viduals from all over, providing a day full of excitement and cultural activities. There were plenty of attractions for children, including a train ride, while the bustling bazaar attracted shoppers with an array of items such as food, footwear, ethnic jewelry, and home dé- cor. One notable vendor, Amit Sharma and his wife, who owns two New Jersey stores, displayed unique antique home items, including hand-crafted metal statues and embroidered shoes. “It takes three people just to work on the embroidery for each pair, yet they’re still reasonably priced for the U.S. market,” he shared. The bazaar also featured numerous home-based busi- nesses showcasing their products. Patel Brothers, the main sponsor, contributed to the festive spirit by giving away snacks and shopping bags. Parikh Worldwide and ITV Gold had booths where they distributed free newspapers to attendees. A highlight of the celebration was the captivating drone show featuring 250 drones, which painted the night sky with colorful lights. The drones depicted Diwali symbols, greetings, and an ani- mated elephant, drawing cheers from the audience. The main stage featured a full lineup of entertainment, showcasing talented performers throughout the day: Natraj Dance opened the event with a vibrant dance performance. Rudra Dance Academy (Younger Kids) delighted the audience with their lively moves. Sai Datta Peetham Gurukulam presented a culturally rich performance. Siddhenthra Kuchipundi brought classical dance to the stage. Rutgers University Dhol Effect energized the crowd with rhythmic drumming. Indianica showcased a colorful and engaging performance. Rudra Dance Academy (Older Kids) re- turned to the stage with more powerful dance routines. Kunal Lamba captivated the crowd with his singing talent. Neel delivered a mix of melodious songs, keeping the festive spirit alive. The evening concluded with a live concert by Sri Charan Pakala , whose music left the audience enthralled. The lamp lighting ceremony, a tra- ditional start to the festivities, saw the participation of all Edison council mem- bers, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, the Mayor of Metuchen, other elected offi- cials, and Edison Mayor Sam Joshi. Their presence underscored the significance of the event as a community celebration and a symbol of cultural unity. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Edison Police Chief and other officials embraced the spirit of the occasion by wearing traditional Indian-style Sher- wanis and colorful attire. Their vibrant dress reflected the cultural essence of Diwali, further enhancing the event’s at- mosphere of inclusivity and celebration. Mayor Joshi, who initiated the Diwali celebration three years ago, expressed his gratitude to the community, guests, and sponsors for their support, noting the festival’s rapid growth and the joy it brings to the local community. The 3rd Annual Diwali Celebration at Pappiani Park successfully combined cultural traditions, entertainment, and a sense of community, making Edison’s Di- wali Wonderland an event to remember.
